About This Piece

Yellow hanging jholi with chain- Double side photo is offered as a japa mala.

About this japa mala

A japa mala is the counting mala used for chanting the Holy Name. It is held in the hand and the beads are moved one by one as each mantra is completed, so that the count is kept by touch and the mind is left free for the Name itself.

How it is used

Hold the mala in the right hand, resting on the middle finger, and turn each bead with the thumb as one mantra is completed. The large head bead is not crossed — on reaching it, the mala is turned and the next round begins in the opposite direction.

Care

Tulsi and other sacred woods are living material: keep the piece dry, remove it before bathing or swimming, and keep it away from soap, perfume and chemicals. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Worn daily, the beads darken and take on a natural sheen over time.

How ordering works

This piece is in stock. SUMERU runs on pre-order rather than instant checkout: you place the order, and a person confirms availability, shipping and payment with you by email before anything is charged. The photograph on this page is of the actual article, not a stock image.
